LF396
A magnificent Ashuara Jivaro bovine horn powder flask of vintage age.  This beautiful horn with a rich patina is nicely carved at the tip and holds a small wooden plug.  The proximal end is capped and there is an original toucan bird beak for measuring powder attached to the plug tip string.  The string is made of fine plied plant fiber. Collected by an anthropologist near Umbaime (Blood) Village in 1990.  Measures 8" long.
SOLD

LF17
An extremely rare hardwood Jivaro club, the bulbous head of which is shaped and carved in the form of a human severed head.  A rich, dark brown patina is worn to create eerie lines of lighter brown patina.  The club was collected by an anthropologist in 1990 from a 102-year old Shuar Jivaro man who reported that the club was used by his great grandfather, a Jivaro headhunter.  As a child, the owner of the club was captured by Catholic missionaries, put in chains and marched to a missionary school near Cuenca, Ecuador.  He later returned to his family in the montaña jungle on the Rio Pastaza.  11 5/8" long. SEE EBAY SALES.

TAD1226
A large Papua New Guinea initiation mask of softwood darkened with soot and enhanced on either side with long bamboo rods wrapped with numerous tufts of cassowary bird feathers.  The mask consists of a carved human head enclosed within an oval cavity partly closed with smart sculptured points.  Half ovals with pointed frontal projections are stacked above and below the center of the mask.  The entire sculpture was carved from a single piece of wood.  This hand-held mask was used in men's initiation ceremonies and comes from Masingi Village near the Middle Ramu River.  A short section of bamboo rod is missing on one side of the mask.  30" long.  $325

LF509 An important Maprik lime mortar from Papua New Guinea.  This is an old and impressive sculpture consisting of a pair of human forms standing on a large block balancing a conical mortar on their heads.  The base, the figures and the mortar are deeply engraved with geometric designs.  The entire surface is heavily worn.  The basal block has an old crack and the mortar has an old worn chip.  8 1/2" tall.  SOLD.
